Career Advancement

Suits to Self-Sufficiency

32 East 31st Street
New York, NY  10016

The mission of Dress for Success is to advance low-income women's economic and social development and to encourage self-sufficiency through career development and employment retention. The organization was incorporated in 1996 and began suiting clients in 1997. To date, more than 200,000 women have been suited for job interviews.

We provide each woman with one suit when she has a job interview. When she successfully lands a job, she returns for a second suit and up to a week’s worth of business-appropriate separates. She also receives an invitation to join the Professional Women’s Group, our employment retention service. Career coaching and mentoring programs are also offered. Dress for Success serves job-ready women by referral only, from nonprofit organizations including domestic violence agencies, homeless shelters and job training programs.

We provide a program through which the best and brightest philanthropic individuals from corporate America provide one-on-one job training to low-income and/or unemployed individuals. Participants learn valuable and necessary computer, interviewing and job skills through weekly sessions with volunteers from companies throughout New York City.
